California added restrictions on PFAS and bisphenol substances

Recently, California issued Senate Bill SB 1266, amending certain requirements for product safety in the California Health and Safety Act (Sections 108940, 108941 and 108942). This update prohibits two types of children's products containing bisphenol, perfluorocarbons, or perfluoroalkyl substances, unless these substances are temporarily essential chemicals.

The term "Children's feeding products" here refers to consumer products designed to fill any liquid, food, or beverage, primarily intended for children under 12 years old to consume from that bottle or cup. Children's sucking or teething products refer to consumer products that assist children under 12 years old in sucking or teething to promote sleep or relaxation.
The term "Temporarily essential chemical" referred to in this bill refers to chemicals that meet the following criteria:
(1) There is currently no safer alternative than this chemical;
(2) This chemical is necessary for the product to function as expected;
(3) This chemical is used in products that are crucial for health, safety, or social function.
