Canadian SAR requirement has been enforced since the end of the year

RSS-102 Issue 6 was enforced on December 15, 2024. This standard is issued by the Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) of Canada, regarding the compliance of radio frequency (RF) exposure for wireless communication equipment (all frequency bands).

RSS-102 Issue 6 was officially released on December 15, 2023, with a 12-month transition period from the date of release. During the transition period, from December 15, 2023 to December 14, 2024, manufacturers may choose to submit certification applications based on RSS-102 5th or 6th edition. After the transition period ends, starting from December 15, 2024, ISED Canada will only accept certification applications based on RSS-102 Issue 6 and enforce the new standard.IC ID

Main Points:

01. The new regulations have lowered the SAR exemption test power threshold (for frequency bands above 2450MHz):<3mW, BT cannot be exempted in the future, and BT SAR testing needs to be added;

02. New regulations confirm that mobile SAR testing distance: Body Worn testing must be consistent with Hotspot testing distance of less than or equal to 10mm;

03. The new regulation adds 0mm Hand SAR testing for mobile phone certification, which increases the testing volume by nearly 50% compared to the old regulation. Therefore, the testing time and cycle also need to be increased synchronously.

RSS-102 Issue 6 Supporting Documents:

RSS-102.SAR.MEAS Issue 1: According to RSS-102, evaluate the measurement procedure for specific absorption rate (SAR) compliance.

RSS-102.NS.MEAS Issue 1RSS-102.NS.SIM Issue 1: Provided measurement programs and simulation programs for compliance with neural stimulation (NS).

RSS-102.IPD.MEAS Issue 1RSS-102.IPD.SIM Issue 1: We provide measurement and simulation programs for incident power density (IPD) compliance.

In addition, other measurement and simulation programs for parameters such as absorbed power density (APD) are currently under development.
