On November 8, 2024, the European Union released a revised draft of the Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulation (EU) 2019/1021, aimed at updating the restrictions and exemptions for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). Stakeholders can submit feedback between November 8, 2024 and December 6, 2024.
This revision mainly involves the extension of the exemption period of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), its salts and related compounds in fire fighting foam and the adjustment of the limit. See the following for the key points of the draft update.
Draft update content
Revise the fourth column of the entry “Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), its salts, and related compounds” in Part A of Appendix I of the regulation as follows:
�� Revision 3: The second sentence has been deleted
�� Add points 4a and 4b.
�� Revision 6: Replace the date “July 4, 2025″ with “December 3, 2025″.
�� Revision 10: The second sentence has been deleted.
�� Add a new point 11.
