SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) is a European Union REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals is a term in regulations that means "substance of high concern". These substances are considered to have serious or irreversible effects on human health or the environment, or may have unacceptable long-term effects on human health or the environment. The REACH regulation requires manufacturers and importers to report the use of SVHC in their products if the concentration exceeds 0.1% by weight and the total weight of the substance produced in the EU market exceeds 1 ton per year. According to the Waste Framework Directive (WFD) - Directive 2008/98/EC of the European Union, if the SVHC substance in an item exceeds 0.1%, a SCIP notification must be completed.
