In January and June 2023, the European Chemicals Administration (ECHA) revised the list of SVHC substances under the EU REACH regulation, adding a total of 11 new SVHC substances. As a result, the list of SVHC substances has officially increased to 235. In addition, ECHA conducted a public review of the 30th batch of 6 candidate substances proposed for inclusion in the SVHC substance list in September. Among them, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), which had already been included in the official SVHC list in October 2008, was re evaluated due to the possibility of new hazard types. At present, all six substances mentioned above have been identified as SVHC substances, and are only waiting for ECHA to officially announce their inclusion in the SVHC substance list. At that time, the SVHC list will increase from 235 to 240.
According to Article 7 (2) of the REACH regulation, if the SVHC content in an item is>0.1% and the annual shipment volume is>1 ton, the enterprise needs to report to ECHA;
According to Article 33 and the requirements of the Waste Framework Directive WFD, if the SVHC content in an item exceeds 0.1%, the enterprise needs to provide sufficient information to downstream and consumers to ensure safe use of the item, and also needs to upload SCIP data.
The SVHC list is updated at least twice a year. With the continuous increase of substances in the SVHC list, enterprises are facing more and more control requirements. BTF suggests that customers closely monitor the updates of regulations, conduct early investigations of the supply chain, and calmly respond to new regulatory requirements.
As a professional third-party testing and certification agency, BTF can currently provide 236 SVHC substance testing services (235+resorcinol). At the same time, BTF can also provide one-stop restricted substance testing services for customers, such as RoHS, REACH, POPs, California 65, TSCA, and FCM (food contact materials) testing services, to help enterprises effectively control risks in various links such as raw materials, production processes, and finished products, and meet target market requirements.
